Hello I am Kayla, an Architect based in Denver.
Hello, I am Kayla, an Architect based in Denver and a proud Colorado native.
I married my best friend (also a Colorado native!) on September 1st, 2020. Together, we share our lives with two lovable pups, Mason and Archie, and we’re currently expecting our first baby! In our free time, we love golfing, making music together, catching live shows, and checking out local breweries.
Creativity is at the heart of everything I do. Whether it’s photography, videography, songwriting, singing, playing guitar, designing furniture, or crafting art installations — I find joy in bringing ideas to life.
Architecture is one of my favorite creative outlets. I’ve been fortunate to gain valuable experience in the field, and I’m especially passionate about custom residential design. I believe that every great project begins with a strong relationship, and I work closely with my clients to understand and bring their vision to life. Clear communication is one of my strengths, and I take pride in expressing design intent with clarity and confidence. I'm always eager to learn, grow, and push myself to become a better designer every day.
Welcome to FloraLume Studio
I believe in the transformative power of light and nature. My architectural designs go beyond structures—they are experiences. I focus on creating spaces that not only illuminate but also inspire and connect with the natural world around us. My philosophy is simple: light elevates, nature grounds, and modern design enhances the balance.
Rooted in Nature. Refined in Simplicity.
As a solo architectural practice, my approach is personal, hands-on, and deeply intentional. I specialize in designing single-family residences and boutique-scale projects that quietly elevate the everyday through the thoughtful merging of Scandinavian principles and biophilic design.
Scandinavian architecture speaks to my love of clarity, warmth, and functional beauty. It’s an aesthetic grounded in clean lines, natural light, and an honest palette of materials—wood, stone, and subtle textures that age gracefully over time. It’s about doing more with less, creating spaces that breathe, and that quietly support the rhythms of daily life.
Biophilic design extends this vision by deepening the relationship between architecture and the natural environment. I strive to create homes that feel connected—where daylight moves through the rooms in ways that shift with the seasons, where views of the landscape are framed like art, and where materials invite touch and comfort. Whether it’s a modest residence or a small-scale commercial retreat, my work is about cultivating spaces that feel alive, grounded, and restorative.
Each project begins with a conversation and unfolds through collaboration, care, and a belief that architecture can nourish both people and place.
My Approach
1. Light as Inspiration At the core of my philosophy is the way light shapes our world. I incorporate natural light into every project, designing spaces that adapt to the changing qualities of sunlight throughout the day. Whether through expansive windows, skylights, or clever architectural techniques, my spaces are designed to glow with warmth and serenity.
2. Nature as a Foundation My designs are rooted in the understanding that nature heals. From natural materials like wood, stone, and brick, to integrating plants and green spaces, I bring the outdoors in, helping my clients feel connected to the earth. I aim to create homes and spaces that respect the environment while enhancing your daily experience.
3. Modern, Thoughtful Aesthetics My aesthetic is modern, minimalist, and inspired by nature. Clean lines, open spaces, and natural materials define my work. I believe in creating efficient spaces that are not just visually beautiful but also functional and adaptable to the way people live and work.
My Services
Site Feasibility Study
Whether you already own a site or are in the process of acquiring one, I can help evaluate its potential. This includes analyzing zoning regulations to determine the maximum allowable size and layout for your project, ensuring the property aligns with your vision and local restrictions.
Programming
Collaborating with you, I’ll help define the essential elements of your project. Together, we’ll outline the types of rooms and spaces that matter most, establish how these areas should relate to each other, and design a seamless flow that supports your lifestyle and enhances functionality.
Initial Design
With your program defined, we’ll embark on the initial design process. Together, we’ll explore inspiration images to identify your design preferences, uncovering the elements, materials, and styles that resonate most with you. My goal is to create spaces that evoke unique emotional responses, foster a deep connection to the nature that will surround your new project, and align seamlessly with your vision. My aim is to design spaces that feel like your personal sanctuary—an inviting retreat where you can unwind, recharge, and feel inspired. After a long day, these spaces should be a place that uplifts and energizes you or your end user, sparking joy and providing comfort in every space.
Final Design & Permitting
Once we’ve refined the initial design to your satisfaction, we’ll move into the final design phase. This stage involves preparing your plans for permitting. Together, we’ll review architectural details so you have a clear understanding of how they will come to life in your project.
I’ll collaborate with structural engineers, mechanical engineers, civil engineers, interior designers, and contractors, to develop comprehensive construction documents, ensuring they meet local and national building codes. These documents will be submitted to your local jurisdiction for review. Throughout the permitting process, I’ll work closely with plan reviewers, addressing any required revisions to secure the necessary permits. You can feel confident that every detail is managed with care and precision, keeping your project on track and in compliance.
